2011年ワールドカップのテーマソング発表

2011年に行われるラグビーワールドカップのテーマソングが発表されました。ジーザス・ジョーンズのヒット曲 “Right Here, Right Now” を、地元ニュージーランドのバンド “The Feelers” がカヴァーするとのことです。

このカヴァー曲自体は未だ発表されておらず、4月27日に迫ったチケット販売時に初披露されるとのこと。

ジーザス・ジョーンズのオリジナル曲は1991年に発表されたものです。日本でもTBSで放送されていたCBSイブニングニュースでも流れていたので、聴き覚えのある人も多いのでは。(歌詞を末尾に載せておきました)

この曲をカヴァーするザ・フィーラーズはクライストチャーチ出身の3人組ロックバンド。1990年から活動しているとのことですが、自分は残念ながら知りませんでした。YouTubeにあった “Fishing for Lisa” は、非常に哀しく美しい曲で、確かな実力を感じさせます。他にも強力なライブアクトであることをうかがわせる動画が幾つかアップされており、カヴァー曲の発表も楽しみです。

なお、この曲はあくまでもプロモーション用のマーケティング・ソングであり、大会のアンセムは引き続き “The World in Union” であるとのことです。(なので、タイトルにつけた「テーマソング」という表現は適当でないのかもしれません)
